Morning Is No Longer Morning. Nor Is Night Truly Night is the third edition of a collaborative magazine project that brings together stories, testimonies and personal histories of people who have travelled the Balkan refugee route and started to build a life for themselves in Europe. Conceived and developed between 2020 and 2026 by photographer and artist Jošt Franko, the project is based on many years of collaboration, workshops and dialogue with people who have experienced forced displacement.
The publication continues the stories presented in the previous editions, Until I Become Home in A Memory Without Evidence, and focuses on life after arrival in Europe. Through essays, poetry, personal reflections, oral histories and photographic documentation, it reveals the everyday lives of refugees, which continue to be shaped by precarious legal status, institutionalised racism, structural violence and the search for belonging. In doing so, it raises questions of class struggle, solidarity and collective care. The project challenges prevailing notions of refugees as passive victims and brings their voices, political views and reflections to the fore. The title, taken from an essay by Etaf Abdelrahman, reflects the experience of living across different places, memories and forms of belonging, where exile does not merely signify the crossing of a border, but permanently reshapes the experience of time, home and the future.
